Natural Treatment Tips

Some time ago, we published here an incredible experience we had using natural treatments. We decided to share some treatments we've learned and tried. I hope they are useful to you too.
Congested Nose (Sinusitis)Steam inhalation with fragrant eucalyptus or chamomile leaves.
Adults and older children: Boil water and add a few eucalyptus leaves. Transfer the water to a plastic bowl to avoid burns from the pot. Place the bowl on a table, sit in front of it, and cover your head with a sheet to prevent cold air from entering from the sides or bottom. Breathe the warm air for about fifteen minutes. Blow your nose as it clears. After the treatment, wipe your face and neck with a cold cloth to avoid catching a chill when you emerge from under the towel.Young children: As in the previous process, boil water and add a few eucalyptus leaves. Transfer the water to a plastic bowl to prevent them from getting burned by the pot. Place the water inside a play tent, covering it with a blanket to prevent cold air from entering through the door opening. Enter the tent with the child (wearing only a t-shirt and underwear), being careful not to touch the hot water bowl. Use this time to talk to the child or bring some small books and tell stories. They will have fun. Stay inside for approximately 15 minutes. Before leaving the tent, wipe the child's entire body and your own with a towel soaked in cold water. Leave the towel near the entrance so you don't catch a chill either. Keep tissues handy in case they need to blow their nose.Apply compresses, preferably in the morning and at night, and do not go out into the cold immediately after. (The play tent was a brilliant idea from my friend Ruth Cardoso)Note: One day I was in a hotel and couldn't sleep because I was so congested. Since I didn't have the materials for an inhalation, I turned on the hotel shower to the hottest possible setting and stood under it, letting the hot water fall on my forehead (for about 15 minutes). It helped a lot, and I finally managed to sleep.FeverAccording to specialists, you should not try to reduce a fever below 38.5 degrees Celsius, as at this temperature, in addition to not posing a health risk, it helps the body increase the production of leukocytes (the body's defense cells). For fevers above 38.5 degrees Celsius, lie in bed and wrap a cold, wrung-out towel around your chest. Cover with another dry towel and a sheet. Replace the wet towel when it warms up. If this is not possible, place a cold, wet cloth on your forehead and neck, or take a cool bath and wear light clothing, or lie down and cover yourself with a sheet. It is important to avoid catching a chill when doing these treatments, stay out of the sun, and drink plenty of water.Minor Burns
Extract the gel from an aloe vera leaf (by peeling it) and apply it to the burn. It might sting a little at first, but that will quickly pass. Continue applying until it heals completely. It's very effective!
Another option is to apply good quality olive oil to the area, reapplying when it dries. Do not apply olive oil to more severe burns with blistering; these require medical attention.Nausea and Vomiting (follow these steps carefully, it really works!)Prepare mint tea (unsweetened) and let it cool. Meanwhile, for about 15 minutes, apply a cold compress to the stomach with a towel soaked in ice water. Reapply when the towel warms up. Mix the juice of 1 lemon with an equal amount of water and take one spoonful every 3 minutes. When you feel better, take a few sips of the cold mint tea. After half an hour, try drinking fruit juice diluted with water, then pure fruit juice (unsweetened). After another half hour, slowly chew a peeled apple, and two hours later, eat a light meal (such as saltine crackers and fruit). This treatment is ideal for nausea caused by indigestion or other simple reasons. If other symptoms like fever and diarrhea are present, it could be something more serious like an intestinal infection; seek to find the cause. Some of these treatments were taken from the book “You Can Have Health If You Just Want It” by Catharina Walzberg from the Retiro Health Recovery Clinic in Jarinú-SP. http://www.retirodasaude.com.br/Learn about some natural treatments for babies, click here.
