The Secret of True Love

Men often focus on one thing at a time. We think that as long as we take care of the yard, the car, and projects around the house, we are providing what our wives need. While they appreciate things getting done and problems being solved, they prefer special moments with us.

One of the greatest secrets of true love is giving them what they need, not what we think they need. One day when I got home, I noticed my wife seemed a bit tired and discouraged. I came up with a quick solution! I told her to go rest and I would do the dishes and take care of the kids. She said, "I just want to spend time with you; let's do the dishes together." When we finished, she looked like she had been rejuvenated.

Situations like this have helped me recognize that I need God to help me tune into my wife's real needs and show me how I can meet them. For years now, I have been asking God to make me a more sensitive, affectionate, and caring husband. I ask Him to open my eyes to opportunities to demonstrate these attributes.

It's amazing how God answers

this kind of prayer. I notice that when I pray this way, I express more genuine appreciation and encouragement throughout the day than I point out mistakes and flaws. I daily express appreciation for my wife's commitment to exercising and taking care of herself, and I tell her how much it means to me. It's amazing to see how motivated she becomes to continue, simply because of my encouragement. I tell her she looks beautiful and I tenderly touch her with love. These small acts of affection are powerful and strengthen the bond of love between us. Above all, I don't take for granted everything she does in our home and the delicious meals she prepares for me.

Friends, let's seek God with a sincere desire to truly love our wives. He will help us unlock this secret of true love as we learn to meet their needs, not just solve problems. We will see happiness grow in our marriage and find satisfaction in our love. Every effort is worthwhile, as God multiplies the results.
