One area of study that can be quite monotonous for some children is History, because most of the time all that's required is memorizing names, dates, and facts. The "whys" and "hows" of historical events, which would help them reason about the importance of these events, are often left out of the curriculum. But it doesn't have to be this way, especially if you want to maintain a Christian perspective in all areas of education.

As stated in the book Education, p. 173: “The Bible is the most ancient and comprehensive history that men possess. It came fresh from the fountain of eternal truth, and a divine hand has preserved its purity through all the ages. It lights up the far-distant past, where human research in vain seeks to penetrate. In God’s word alone do we behold the power that laid the foundations of the earth and stretched out the heavens. Here alone do we find an authentic account of the origin of nations. Here alone is given a history of our race unsullied by human pride or prejudice.

In the annals of human history, the growth of nations, the rise and fall of empires, appear as dependent on the will and prowess of man. The shaping of events seems, to a great degree, to be determined by his power, ambition, or caprice. But in the word of God the curtain is drawn aside, and we behold, behind, above, and through all the play and counterplay of human interests, power, and passions, the agencies of an all-merciful Being, silently, patiently working out the counsels of His own will.”

When a child understands that they are part of world history and that God has a definite plan for their life, as well as a plan to restore this world fallen by sin, the study of history takes on a different meaning, bringing peace and hope for a better future.
